THE CHARTWELL CHARITIES NEWS

The Chartwell Cancer Trust at Buckingham Palace

We are delighted to share a very special moment with our supporters.

On a glorious sunny Tuesday 20th May, our Founder and Trustee, Michael Douglas, had the incredible honour of attending a Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. He was accompanied by fellow Trustee, Natalie Reilly, and together they spent a truly memorable day in the magnificent grounds of the Palace.

The event was a celebration of service, commitment, and dedication, values that are at the very heart of everything we do. It was a proud and humbling moment for the charity to be recognised at such a prestigious occasion.

This honour comes at a particularly meaningful time, 20 years this month since Michael founded The Chartwell Cancer Trust.

Where it all began….

The story of the charity began in 2003, when Michael was diagnosed with leukaemia and underwent treatment at the Chartwell Cancer and Leukaemia Unit at The Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH), Farnborough. The waiting times he experienced as a patient were truly eye-opening, revealing the very real challenges the NHS faces in delivering outstanding care while navigating staff shortages and limited resources.

That spark of thought and determination became the foundation for what is now two decades of making a difference, funding frontline NHS staff, enhancing cancer care facilities, and supporting children and families through the toughest times of their lives.

We are incredibly proud of Michael’s vision, and deeply grateful to all of our supporters who have joined us on this journey. Here’s to the next chapter!
