THE CHARTWELL CHARITIES NEWS

Paul Clark smashes 24-hour goal, raises over £28,000 (and counting!)

Biggin Hill’s very own cycling hero, Paul Clark, has completed his extraordinary ‘Midsummer Madness’ Challenge, cycling for over 27 hours and climbing a height greater than Mount Everest  – all in aid of The Chartwell Cancer Trust.

Kicking off at 9am on Saturday 21st June, Paul set off from the summit of Stock Hill to rapturous cheers from the Biggin Hill community, friends, and family, with a rousing countdown by Olympic cyclist and Eurosport pundit Brian Smith.

What followed was a display of sheer grit and determination. Paul powered on through sweltering heat, which even challenged the resolve of the spectators, volunteers, and bucket collectors! Despite hitting a tough low at 4am, Paul dug deep, found his resolve, and kept going – driven by one mission: to make a difference to cancer care.

Mission accomplished

Paul cycled for an astonishing 27 hours raising over £27,000 at that time, smashing his original target of £24,000 in 24 hours – and donations are still coming in!

A True Team Effort

Paul was supported throughout by his dedicated crew – Lee and John kept him hydrated and focused, while Paul, Dave, and Justin joined as support riders to help maintain pace and morale. The Chartwell Team was out in full force, joined by a brilliant group of volunteers, family, and friends. A special shout-out to Kaye Bernard, who led the charge on the cheerleading and bucket collection front and to Choi Pin for feeding Paul during the challenge.

Chartwell’s Jo Bennett said: “Our thanks go to everyone involved, but of course our biggest thanks go to Paul. For anyone who has sadly ever needed the services of The Chartwell Cancer Trust or The Chartwell Unit at the Princess Royal University Hospital, this incredible total will be a huge boost for local cancer care. You are a true superstar, Paul – and it’s heartening to see such strong community spirit shining in Biggin Hill.”

And the World Noticed!

We are thrilled that Paul’s incredible effort has also been recognised by both local and national media, including a feature on ITV London! See the video at the top of this article.
