Adventurer Jane Holmes conquers Kumano Kudo Pilgrimage Trek in Japan!
We are thrilled to announce that supporter Jane Holmes has safely returned to the UK after successfully completing the challenging Kumano Kudo Pilgrimage Trek in Japan.
An adventurer at heart, Jane has been a dedicated supporter of our cause since 2013. She previously undertook a remarkable five-day trek in Jordan, and a six-day hike across the Himalayas. So, when she got in touch to let us know she was lacing up her trekking boots for another adventure this October, we were excited but not surprised!
This latest trek was no small feat. Over four days, Jane traversed a stunning mountain range, passing through villages, Shinto shrines, and Buddhist temples. The journey included challenging terrain with hills rising to 870 meters, along uneven paths, through pine forests, and alongside rivers and streams. The final day proved to be the toughest, culminating in a 12-mile hike to the breathtaking Kumano Kudo Taisha Grand Shrine and Waterfall, with an elevation gain of 3,886 feet.
Fortunately, Jane enjoyed good weather throughout her trek, as rain could have turned the experience into a completely different story!
Jane fully funded this adventure herself, ensuring that every penny raised goes directly to Chartwell. We are immensely grateful for her generosity and dedication; to date, she has raised nearly £5,000 for our cause, as well has being a patron of Chartwell for so many years.
Thank you, Jane, for your support, and to everyone who encouraged her along the way and contributed to her incredible fundraising efforts!
