Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – supporting children and families
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – a time to raise awareness of childhood cancer and the challenges faced by children, young people, and their families.
When a child is diagnosed with cancer, the impact reaches far beyond the hospital. Treatment can mean long journeys to appointments, time away from school and friends, uncertainty for parents and siblings, and a childhood that can suddenly look very different.
The support we provide helps to improve cancer care for children and families, helping them stay connected, reduce isolation, and create precious moments together.
This month we will be highlighting the support that is available including:
- Making memories at Sophie’s Wish Holiday Lodge, Isle of Wight
- Helping families get to treatment using our transport support service
- Making hospital a better place for children and families during treatment whether it be vital equipment or improvements to facilities
- Helping children stay connected at school with our AV1 No Isolation Robot Programme
- Obtaining support at their fingertips – The Oncology Guide App bringing information and guidance together in one centralised place
- Supporting the whole family at our family support groups providing a safe welcoming space, and fun times together
- Recognising bravery – providing gifts, and special treats – during hospital stays
Every donation, fundraising event, volunteer, business partnership, and act of support helps us continue providing the practical, emotional, and financial support that children and families need.
