CHARTWELL FUNDING SUPPORT AT KING’S
Our long-standing relationship with King’s College Hospital has enabled us to support a variety of departments and clinical teams to meet the needs of oncology patients and to continue breaking ground in research around cancer.
We wanted to share an update about the achievements being made thanks to your fundraising contributions – as ever this work simply would not be possible without you.
Children’s Oncology
The Chartwell Children’s Cancer Trust has recently fulfilled the total ‘Wish List’ for the children’s oncology and COVID wards including the Youth Work service in King’s College Hospital.
With the current highly sensitive situation in the hospital due to COVID-19, vital resources on wards had dramatically dwindled as a ‘one patient and one time use’ approach has been adopted for infection control. These ‘grab and go’ resources, including arts, crafts and play equipment help keep children and young people distracted and engaged during their hospital admission. These materials, so important for the well-being of patients, have been in desperate need of replenishment for some time.
Sadly, with the rise in young patients with a variety of specialist medical conditions, turnover has also been high and very frequent including a surge in the admission of young people for mental health reasons. For us to be able to respond to the urgent requests from the teams on the wards and provide the tools required for art therapy sessions has made such an important impact on patients during these very difficult times.

Providing vital research equipment in the fight against cancer
We have been supporting the Research Team at King’s College London for over a year and we are proud that our purchase of specialist equipment needed for a pioneering gene editing cancer research project, has led to ground breaking progress in the development of new cancer therapies. This vital research has the potential to improve the lives and outcomes of millions of people.
The research teams at King’s continue to feel the impact of the support we are able to give and have been in touch to share their ongoing gratitude to our supporters here at the Charity.
