October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month

“Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and it is the second leading cause of death among women”

If breast cancer is found and treated early, the chance of survival is high. Raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of breast cancer is paramount! Know your risk: Talk to your family and learn about any family history Take charge of your breast health: Discuss with your GP about screening tests that are right for you Know what is normal for you: Contact your GP if you notice any changes Be aware of the warning signs: Look out for lumps, swelling, change in size, dimpling, itchy and scaly skin or a rash, pulling in of the nipple or other parts of the breast, nipple discharge, new pain Make healthy lifestyle choices including: Maintain a healthy weight and diet, regular exercise, limit alcohol intake Get screened for early detection: Breast screening plays an important role as early stage breast cancers can be detected even without warning signs or symptoms.

“If you notice any unusual changes, see your GP straight away”

One of the biggest reasons to raise awareness about breast cancer is that breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women and it is the second leading cause of death among women.
