Urgent appeal to keep children with cancer close to home

High-Acuity Observation Monitors for Tiger Ward

The Chartwell Children’s Cancer Trust has launched an appeal to raise £20,000 for essential High-Acuity Observation Monitors for  local Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU), Tiger Ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Tiger Ward is expanding so that children can receive innovative infusional chemotherapy locally. This treatment involves the prolonged administration of anti-cancer drugs and requires continuous, high-level monitoring – where early detection of complications can be lifesaving.

The expansion will allow more children to access this complex treatment. However, to introduce this service safely, the Ward urgently needs specialist high-acuity observation monitors.

Why These Specialist Monitors Matter:

These monitors will:

  • Continuously track vital signs
  • Detect early warning signs of complications
  • Enable faster clinical intervention when it matters most

The Impact on Families:

Providing this high-quality, specialist care locally will:

  • Improve patient safety
  • Reduce the need for long-distance travel
  • Keep children closer to home, school, and support networks
  • Ease the emotional, financial, and practical strain on families

The charity is calling on the local community to support the campaign through their Crowdfunder appeal.
