THE CHARTWELL CHARITIES NEWS

Fabulous Football Reunion

On Sunday 4th July, a very special charity football tournament took place at Tooting and Mitcham United Football Club to celebrate the end of cancer treatment for young supporter, Brodie Burgess. Brodie especially wanted the match to be in aid of The Chartwell Children’s Cancer Trust, as a thank you for the support Brodie and her family received during her cancer journey. The event was organised by Dean Johnson with the help of his football friends.

Team Yellows (Sonz of the desert) versus Team Reds (New Maldon Town) played a great game. Both sides had players of varying ages and levels of fitness, and some had not played for several years! Fortunately, there were plenty of subs on the sidelines to roll on and off the pitch when required! The game, evenly matched, resulted in a 4-4 draw at full time, leading to a sudden death penalty shoot-out. Congratulations to Team Yellows who narrowly defeated Team Reds with a 7-6 win.

Lots of fun was had by all, and fortunately, just a few injuries. Although the likelihood of plenty of achy bodies the following day! It was fantastic to see so many people involved either taking part or in support. An amazing £2,900 was raised overall with talk of a re-match next year!

Special thanks to Dean Johnson and his players for their hard work in arranging such a brilliant reunion match and, of course, to special guest of honour Brodie. Thank you also to hosts Tooting and Mitcham United Football Club and to sponsors H Building Contractors Ltd. In addition, thank you to: XPN Dance and Flex FM and Stack Up Sound for keeping everyone entertained; to Merton Police Cadets and Metropolitan Police Service Sutton for helping with the bucket collecting; to the London Fire Brigade Mitcham for bringing their fire engine; and to Georgia of Geo Sports Massage for the first aid pitch side assistance.
