SOPHIE’S WISH Isle of Wight Lodge

Whitecliff Bay Holiday Park, Bembridge is near the eastern tip of the Isle of Wight. It enjoys a breath-taking rural countryside setting, alongside a beautiful private sandy beach with glistening sea views. The beach affords safe bathing and is sheltered from the prevailing wind by the towering white cliffs of Culver. Towards the southerly end of the bay, there are rocks and pools for children to explore. Getting there is easy, you can catch a ferry from Portsmouth or Southampton which takes around 45 minutes followed by a 25 minute drive. This is the home of Sophie’s Wish, a three-bedroom luxury lodge. It has a spacious lounge and dining area, a fully fitted kitchen, a family bathroom, a second wc, master, double and twin bedrooms. The lodge, tastefully decorated in purple – Sophie’s favourite colour – is equipped with everything you could possibly need including: digital TV and DVD player, DVD’s and family games. The only thing you need to bring is bed linen and towels. The lodge also has a secure spacious decked patio area with stepped access and gate, overlooking spectacular views across the Holiday Park. There is plenty to do to keep the family entertained. The Holiday Park has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a multisport court, an adventure playground, indoor soft play, daytime activities, and crazy golf. There is also a bar, diner and regular evening entertainment in the club house. On the island, there is a Paediatric Oncology Unit so that oncology families can spend family time away safe in the knowledge that it is close by. Our first oncology family enjoyed a long weekend break at Sophie’s Wish last October and we look forward to welcoming many more of our oncology children for a complimentary family stay. We understand fully the importance that treatment protocol and dates

may change, and we are able to offer total flexibility to accommodate this, subject to availability. All of this is possible because of the beautiful and courageous, Sophie. Sophie told her parents, Karen and Steve, and her sister Emma, of her dream to raise enough money to buy a holiday home for children like herself. She wanted other children battling cancer to share the fun and happy memories she enjoyed while holidaying on the Isle of Wight. Her drive and determination inspired the Powell family and friends to fundraise for Children’s Charities to make her dream come true. And, in a short space of time, the Powell family raised enough funds to provide us with the funds to purchase ‘Sophie’s Wish’. The Powell’s fundraising in memory of Sophie still continues and her legacy lives on. To date Sophie’s legacy has raised an incredible £129,500. Special thanks to: Friends Andrea Cornish and Eve Messenger for organising a Dinner Dance at the Europa Hotel in Crawley on the 6th October which raised £5,750. Karen, Steve and Emma for holding a charity disco at Falconwood Community Centre on 19th October that raised £2,280. Steve’s work colleague Grace, for organising a charity night at Lord Nelson, Old Kent Road on the 27th October which raised £1,740. Bickley & Widmore £250 Link Financial £322 Eve Messenger and friends £135 and Linda Wake £100 in lieu of Christmas cards.
