A parent from our Bromley Childhood Cancer Support Group got in touch with us before Christmas. Her child was receiving oncology treatment on the Toni and Guy Ward at King’s College Hospital. We soon discovered that there were a few families in our local area that were also being treated there as well as many families in the boroughs surrounding the hospital. Bromley Childhood Cancer Group Co-ordinator, Michelle Simpson, arranged to go and visit the medical team on the oncology ward and some of the families. They loved the sound of our childhood cancer support groups and thought it was exactly what they needed. They pointed out that in the past, they are always invited to join the NHS Trust’s Christmas party but can’t attend due to neutropenia and infection control.
We therefore decided to create another childhood cancer support group especially for families being treated at King’s and we look forward to meeting them all at our first group meet up soon.
