The Ellendel School of Speech and Drama kindly invited The Chartwell Cancer Trust to participate in their Summer Performance at St.George’s Hall in Beckenham on 30th June.
Tutors Laura McHale and Laura McLoughlin introduced the young students who delighted the audience with a range of prose and verse recitals that enchanted and amazed us all in equal measure. After the performance the students were introduced to RSC Actress Natalie Simpson. Natalie played the lead role in the feature film “Tula” The Revolt, before her RSC debut as Ophelia in Hamlet, followed by Guiderius in Cymbeline and Cordelia to Anthony Sher’s Lear in King Lear.
Natalie told the audience a little about her career and invited questions from the young students. She explained that her career involved a lot of part time waitressing and how the excitement of live performances brought her great enjoyment. The very young students asked Natalie some personal questions: ”What’s your favourite colour?” “Who’s your favourite actress?” “How old are you?” Natalie answered every question with a smile, “16” being her first answer to the age question, shortly followed by a slight adjustment! The performance ended with applause for all of the performing students and Natalie Simpson.
This was followed by loud applause and cheering for Tutors Laura and Laura, the masterminds behind Ellendel.
Fundraising from the entrance fee, raffle, cake sales, refreshments and donations from parents including Maria Cruz, Ralph W.King, Nena, Anton, Nimue and Nerissa Genocchio, Samara and Ralph King including Gift Aid totalled almost £740.00 which exceeded all expectations. Special thanks to Melanie Brown, Louise, Herbie and Ethan Douglas-Johnson for providing the refreshments and helping with the sales.
