The CCT Bromley and Croydon Childhood Cancer Support Groups enjoyed an exclusive visit to Heads, Shoulders, Knees & Toes in The Glades, Bromley on Tuesday 7th August. This amazing, interactive experience took our inquisitive young minds on a journey through the weird and wonderful world of the human body. Our ‘Junior Doctors’ had a great time finding out what happens inside their bodies, for example, what happens to your lungs when you sneeze? Why do you laugh when you are tickled? They also went into the dark oxygen tank to find out how and why it is important that we breathe. It was such an interesting way of learning, whilst having lots of fun at the same time!
The groups then enjoyed a lovely leisurely brunch in Giraffe World Kitchen, which gave everyone the chance to have a proper catch-up. Thank you to Giraffe for being such great hosts and for supplying the burger/animal masks which were a particular source of amusement. Thank you also to The Glades for inviting us along to this wonderful morning.
On Sunday 19th August 2018, The CCT Tiger Ward Childhood Cancer Support Group families met at Greenwich Theatre, to watch a performance of The Jungle Book. On arrival, the families stepped into the deep dark jungle, drums played in the distance and wild animals slept on the stage. Monkeys leaped around the families, making lots of noise and being very cheeky. Throughout the show, the families went on an amazing adventure, meeting all the different jungle characters including Mowgli along the way. The children also got to meet the cast and ask questions when they were invited on stage. Thank you to Director, James Haddrell, for allowing the group to meet the cast. It was a perfect special family summer treat.
On Monday 20th August, The CCT Frog Childhood Cancer Support Group met at a new playroom on Rupert Bear Ward for an afternoon of fun and entertainment. The children were very excited, and it was not too long before Louise from Kinder Parties had them all engaged and taking part in a variety of energetic activities! All of the games were perfect for the broad age range of the children who were there, which made sure that everyone joined in. After all the dancing and playing, Louise gave all of the children glitter transfers and made animal balloons of their choice to take home. The afternoon concluded with a healthy buffet supplied by the Café in Greenwich Centre. Everyone had a fantastic time.
We were thrilled when Neil Smith, the Manager at Bromley FC invited The CCT Bromley and Croydon Childhood Cancer Support Groups to join the first team at their training session on Thursday 23rd August, followed by lunch with the players.
It was a rainy start to the day, but that did not put anyone off, as everyone had a great time watching the team train. The children were then invited onto the pitch for a kick about with the players, before trying their luck against the goalie!
Everyone then headed into the Ravens bar for lunch where the children got to spend more time with the players! Thank you so much to Bromley FC for ensuring that the children had such a brilliant afternoon and for the great video of the goals being scored!
n Sunday 2nd September, the Bromley and Frog Childhood Cancer Support Group had a ‘chill out morning’ at Warboar Games & Paradice Board Game Café with a special guest visitor, children’s author Lawrence Prestidge. Lawrence chatted about how he became involved in writing and read out some very funny excerpts from his bestselling books ‘Terror at the Sweet Shop’ and ‘Can such things be?’ his most recent novel. He also took questions before signing copies of his books for the children to take home. The group spent the rest of the morning learning how to paint miniature models and characters, and took part in board gaming sessions. Everyone had a great time meeting Laurence, relaxing and having fun together. Thank you to the Warbour team for being such wonderful hosts and for everyone (mostly the Reed family!) who gave up their time to help and join in the fun.
The Bromley Childhood Cancer Support Group was excited to back at Bromley FC to watch the match against Halifax Town on Saturday 29th September. The children were really excited as some of them were chosen as mascots and flag bearers. It was a beautiful Autumn day and a thrilling match resulting in a draw 2-2. CCT volunteers were also there cheering on the Ravens as well as bucket collecting which raised over £300. Thank you to everyone who supported us that day and to Bromley FC for their continued support. #WeAreBromley
On Sunday 2nd September, The CCT Tiger Ward Childhood Cancer Support Group met at Pizza Express Bexleyheath. It was a lively morning learning about how to make pizza, tasting a variety of fresh ingredients and, of course, getting to make authentic Italian pizza masterpieces! Afterwards, the children ate their pizzas topped off with delicious ice cream.
